There are two potential releases this year - Brian's book and the rock n roll album. Add to the promotional campaign of both releases with a single disc 'best of' release and then a multi disc box set.

If someone buys the CD and likes it, they might buy the box. As long as its clear they're companion products. That would be a really nice way to go about it. And please with the title From There To Back Again. I love that. Not 'last Wilson standing' [tongue]

I think it's almost a necessary thing to do. Brian's life was just put on the big screen for the whole world to see, he'll be touring Pet Sounds for the 50th anniversary this year. That coupled with the book and possible new album; this would appear to be the most opportune time to get something like this going.

I think we did this once before.  I probably like Hal's list the best (over Wild Honey and Curt's generally excellent lists) just because I love "On Christmas Day" but don't like 'Desert Drive' or 'Meet me in my Dreams tonight' or 'Tell me Why' very much (would prefer 'Being with the one you love.').

John B - Somehow "Being With The One You Love" slipped my memory. I love that song! I would add that one to my list. It blew me away when it came out on the BW88 re-release. I think "On Christmas Day" is wonderful and I love the video of Brian and his band recording it, but I have a personal tick about Christmas songs on Greatest Hits or Best Of(s). Not because some Christmas songs aren't dynamite, it's just having them pop up in April or August when you are listening. LOL Silly, perhaps, but there you have it for me. HAL does have a great suggested list/package.

Curt,

I thought I was the only one whose OCD didn't like having Christmas songs on compilations.

I got a nice Harry Bellafonte single disc best of in late summertime.  And if I listen to it, I have to skip Mary's Boy Child.

Same issue with best ofs I have by ELP, John Lennon, The Kinks, etc.

Nothing against On Christmas Day, as I really like that song.

When it comes to Brian, I rarely get caught up on the lyrics. This goes back to when I was too young to know what a pink slip or competition clutch was. I couldn't understand much of the lyrics so I'd listen to the music as if it were a symphony...and the voices singing were just a part of the orchestra.

I still do that to this day. So half the time I don't even think of 'On Christmas Day' as being a Christmas song. I can see why it would be jarring for some to hear on a Greatest Hits comp, but personally I wouldn't have any problem with it.

That's funny, HAL.

I used to think the Boys were bragging about being fired in Little Deuce Coupe.

I didn't realize until a couple years ago that the pink slip referred to a car title.

Ha! I'm pretty certain the same thing happened to me. I knew about the meaning of a pink slip (in regards to being fired) long before I knew it had another meaning having to do with car ownership.

There are plenty of other mistakes I've made when it comes to Beach Boys lyrics. My biggest being mishearing the vocals to a line in 'Help Me Rhonda':

"Well since she put me down
I bet I'll do it in my head."

Made absolutely no sense to me all those years, and I'm glad I eventually read the actual lyrics haha.
